Indiana Football: Curt Cignetti's Radio Show Notes (Sep. 4)

Cignetti on the offense's promising signs

Following last weekend's explosive 35-3 win over FCS Idaho, Indiana's head coach Curt Cignetti expressed his satisfaction during his weekly radio show on Monday.

Cignetti praised the offense's impressive performance, which featured both an efficient passing game and a powerful rushing attack. The Hoosiers gained 539 total yards, their highest output since racking up 570 yards against Maryland in 2019.

Cignetti acknowledged that there are always areas for improvement, but he was clearly encouraged by what he saw from his team in the season opener.

Injuries starting to add up on the defensive side of the ball

While the offense has been a bright spot for Indiana, the defense has been dealing with several injuries. Three key players—cornerback Tiawan Mullen, linebacker Dasan McCullough, and defensive tackle Weston Kramer—all missed the Idaho game.

Cignetti provided an update on their status, saying that Mullen is expected to return this week, while McCullough and Kramer are still day-to-day.

The Hoosiers will need to get healthy on defense if they want to be competitive in the Big Ten this season.

Looking ahead to Western Kentucky

Indiana will face a much tougher test this week when they travel to Bowling Green to take on Western Kentucky. The Hilltoppers are coming off a 38-17 win over Austin Peay in their season opener.

Cignetti knows that Western Kentucky will be a challenge, but he is confident that his team is ready to step up.

The Hoosiers and Hilltoppers will kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET on Friday, September 9. The game will be televised on ESPN.
